Before the release of dead Pool, Ryan reynolds was in real danger of being the guy who only starred in terrible comic book adaptations, having gone zero for four before Merc with a Mouth’s solo debut, and even then the project passed a dozen years stuck in development hell until it finally made it to the big screen.
Actor’s first taste of a superhero story has arrived Blade trinity, and while his performance as Hannibal King was one of the strongest parts of the finished product, the film as a whole wasn’t great to put it mildly. He followed with his rookie exit as Wade Wilson in X-Men Origins: Wolverine, who found him causing a sensation in the opening act before coming back with his mouth shut, and in the years since, Reynolds admitted he only signed on the project so no one else wasn’t cast for the role, but he at least saw it introduced to Hugh Jackman.
Without getting discouraged, The Green Lantern was next, who went on to become one of the biggest box office bombs in history, while also earning a reputation as one of the worst superhero superheroes of the modern era. And last but not least was RIPD, which had a premise full of potential as essentially a cross between ghost hunters and Men in black, but the execution was sorely lacking.
The supernatural action buddy could only make $ 78 million against a budget of $ 130 million and was heavily criticized by critics and the public alike, but that didn’t stop him from finding a new life on Netflix. For unknown reasons, RIPD is currently the sixth most-viewed film on the platform’s global chart, as subscribers flock to see Ryan reynolds and Jeff Bridges team up for an uninspired genre mashup.
