Amazon acquires ‘Valor’ from Jeff Chan and Andrew Rhymer, 87North Producing – Deadline

EXCLUSIVE: In a competitive situation, Amazon Studios took over the original action-adventure spec script Value by writers Jeff Chan and Andrew Rhymer. Kelly McCormick and David Leitch of 87North are on board to produce the feature.

In Value, marauding warrior from popular video game dies in freak accident. He reincarnates into our world and discovers that the god he has always worshiped turns out to be a 13-year-old Asian child from New Jersey who is adjusting to life with a single parent. The project is presented as a four-quadrant family film, repeating 87North’s first foray into this space. Word is that Amazon took over the project for high six figures.

Chan and Rhymer are currently writing and will direct Netflix Girls Boys with Kenya Barris and Antoni Porowski (Queer eye) production, as well as Singles Day for the production of New Line Cinema with Good Fear. Previously they wrote and directed the romantic comedy One more which won the Audience Award at the Tribeca Film Festival in 2019 and starred Maya Erskine, Jack Quaid and Beck Bennett.

87North recently produced the R-rated Universal action film Nobody with Bob Odenkirk and are currently in post-production on Sony High-speed train with Brad Pitt and Sandra Bullock. Leitch is also directing this action flick based on the Japanese novel. Maria beetle by Kotaro Isaka. High-speed train follows five assassins who end up on a fast train from Tokyo to Morioka with just a few stops in between.

Chan and Rhymer are picked up by Verve, Anonymous Content and attorney Kim Jaime.
