“Andrew Dominik is always interesting, and I can’t wait to see his movie Marilyn Monroe, Blond. Robert Machoian is a wonderful, up-and-coming filmmaker whose The murder of two lovers was one of my favorites of 2020. It has The Integrity of Joseph Chambers will be released this year, again starring Clayne Crawford. I feel like their collaboration is just beginning and I expect a lot of good things from them. My introduction to British comedian David Earl was in Ricky Gervais’ wonderful film. Life after death; he has a dark robot comedy coming out this year, Brian and Charles, and it looks unique and twisted, and I can’t wait to check it out. Also Riley Stearns, who did the amazing The art of self-defense in 2019is back with a dystopian cloning film, Double.
On the doc front, there’s a long way to go, but the one I’m most looking forward to is Kathryn Ferguson. Nothing compares, about one of the greatest, most convincing and courageous singers in the world, Sinead O’Connor. And of the big guns, the two I’m most excited about are those of Martin Scorsese Moonflower Slayers– a thriller on the dark and murderous undersides of capitalism; and perhaps more than any of them, the amazing Baz Luhrman Elvis. My expectations in this regard are incredibly high and he has never let me down.
