Kevin Bacon to play antagonist in ‘Toxic Avenger’ reboot

Actor Kevin Bacon will play the villainous role in the Legendary reboot of the 1984 movie “Toxic Avenger”.

Directed by Macon Blair, the reboot will be a contemporary reimagining of Troma Entertainment’s 1984 low-budget action comedy.

Bacon, the Hollywood star known with films such as ” Footloose ”, ” A Few Good Men ”, ” Hollow Man ” and ” Mystic River ” to his credit, joins Peter Dinklage, Jacob Tremblay and Taylour Paige.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, “Toxic Avenger” will cover environmental themes and overturn the genre of superheroes in the vein of “Deadpool”.

Blair also wrote the script for the film, which will follow a struggling common man who, when pushed into a vat of toxic waste, transforms into a mutant monster.

The man must move from being a rejected outcast to being a neglected hero as he races to save his son, friends and community from the forces of corruption and greed.

Lloyd Kaufman and Michael Herz of Troma Entertainment will be the producers.

The long and successful series of ‘The Toxic Avenger’ spawned the sequels ‘The Toxic Avenger Part II’ (1989) and ‘The Toxic Avenger Part III: The Last Temptation of Toxie’ (1989).

A third independent sequel, titled ‘Citizen Toxie: The Toxic Avenger IV’, was released in 2000.

Intellectual Property (IP) has also become a stage music production, a children’s cartoon television series, and a Marvel comic book. Bacon is currently featured in Showtime’s crime drama “City on a Hill”. He recently finished filming the crime thriller ‘One Way’ with Travis Fimmel.
