LETTERS: Hollywood Brings “Fast & Furious” to Waco Valley Mills Intersection in Bosque | Letters

Missed mark

Daren Bakst and Jonathan Butcher’s recent opinion piece, “Why Aren’t School Lunch Programs Just For Those Who Need It?” [May 14] misses school lunch programs and the federal community eligibility provision.

As a result of the COVID-19 crisis, millions of families are facing hardship. School meals have been and will continue to be a lifeline for many families in Texas as our country rebuilds and recovers.

The Community Eligibility Provision is an effective program that cuts red tape, eliminates stigma, and is one of the most effective ways to ensure children receive breakfast and lunch in some of the schools and communities. most deprived districts of our country.

Ultimately, increased access to nutritious school meals helps build a better nourished nation where children can reach their potential, fulfill their dreams and compete in our economy. When children get the food they need every day, they feel better, learn more, and grow stronger. Healthier, smarter children are more likely to break the cycle of poverty and build a stronger, more competitive country. It’s good for our children, good for the communities of Texas, and good for America.
