“When you realize that you are not alone, it relieves you.”
Lately, actor Ryan Reynolds has spoken candidly about living with anxiety. It’s super powerful.
âPart of my job as a parent is to model behaviors and to model what it is to be sad and what it is to be anxious or angry. room for all of these things, âhe said. “I think it’s important to talk about it. And when you do talk about it, it kind of frees others.”
This week, Yahoo asked Reynolds continue the conversation and talk about her efforts to de-stigmatize mental health.
“In real life I think it’s important to have conversations about our inner worlds and not in a way that makes you feel like you’re a galatic black hole of” me, me, me, me, me, “but I mean, like, it’s important to share each other’s experiences,” he said.
“Because when you feel … when you are not alone in something that you are going through, when you realize that you are not alone, it relieves you in an almost indescribable way.”
Then he brought the conversation back to the family.
âI wish my dad who passed away years ago, but I wish he was a guy who talks about what’s going on inside,â he continued. “So having kids now, I want to make sure that a lot of this is de-stigmatized and I want to make sure that I model for my own kids what it’s like to feel anxiety, confusion, sadness or anger. “
“These are things that weren’t necessarily molded to me. So it’s an opportunity, for me – I see it as an opportunity to convey this in a different way.”
And what a beautiful feeling!
