As fans await the release of Dead Pool 3, which may or may not come at some point in this decade, Ryan Reynolds is celebrating the release of the movie that started it all. Six years ago today dead Pool released theatrically, introducing the general public to the Merc With A Mouth. On Saturday afternoon, Reynolds took to Instagram to celebrate the R-rated superhero film’s sixth anniversary.
“Six years today,” the superstar shared. “Iron Birthday.”
Despite its hard-R rating, Deadpool earned over $784 at the worldwide box office. Fox quickly ushered in a sequel, which grossed even more. Together, the Reynolds-led franchise has grossed over $1.5 billion at the box office.
Reynolds is currently on board to make a third Deadpool movie, this time in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The actor is currently working on a screenplay with Wendy Molyneux and Lizzie Molyneux-Logelin. Kevin Feige confirmed with us last year that the threequel has a release window, although an exact date has yet to be revealed.
“We do,” Feige said at the time. “And the script is in the works and Ryan is working very hard on it with our writers right now.”
“It’s something that’s just a daily process,” Reynolds previously said. Collider about working on Dead Pool 3 scenario. “Writing is a bit like that, you have to allocate time to do it and walk away, and I’ve been working with the Molyneux on it, it was awesome. They’re incredibly talented and so smart. They understand so much this world and I know how to zigzag when everyone’s expecting a zag, so it’s been a lot of fun.”
Dead Pool 3 has not yet set a release date.
