Ryan Reynolds shared the concerns that troubled him at the premiere dead Pool film. However dead Pool was a huge hit and gave Reynolds a life-changing opportunity in his career, his first stint with the character had him left in doubt about the film.
dead Pool wasn’t Ryan Reynolds‘ first attempt at playing Marvel Comics character Wade Wilson. He appeared alongside Hugh Jackman and Liev Schreiber in the X-Men Trilogy prequel, X-Men Origins: Wolverine. The movie, however, was heavily panned by critics for several aspects, and much of the fan disappointment was aimed at Ryan Reynolds’ portrayal of Deadpool. The movie revamped Deadpool to fit the movie and removed vital character traits depicted in the comics. Origins of the X-Men‘ Deadpool wasn’t humorous, his portrayal wasn’t source-accurate, and he didn’t break the fourth wall. To add to the disaster, they sewed his mouth shut even though his “Merc with a Mouth” attitude was what made him famous.
So when Fox Studios decided to reboot dead Pool, Ryan Reynolds was skeptical for a time about remaking the role, knowing that audiences won’t give him another chance to make it right. In a conversation with The Hollywood ReporterReynolds, talking about his biggest fear while doing dead Poolsaid,
“I’d been in the comic book arena before with no real success, and I was like, ‘Wow, if this doesn’t work, I’m gonna let people down. That was my biggest fear, was letting people down who loved this character.”
Between X-Men Origins: Wolverine and dead PoolReynolds also ventured onto DC Comics via Green Lantern (2011), which was a major commercial and critical failure. So venturing into the comic book genre was genuinely a concern for Reynolds at the time.
dead Pool eventually became a massive hit, earning Reynolds a Golden Globe nomination and successfully reviving the Deadpool Series within the X men movies universe. A sequel to the film was released in 2018, and the character isn’t resting anytime soon.
Deadpool is heading to Marvel Studios
After Disney acquired Fox Studios and secured the copyrights to adaptations of x-men under Marvel Studios, dead Pool was the first film to find its way into the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Marvel Studios expands Dead Pool 3, with Reynolds reprising his role. Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick are writing the film.
During this time, Reynolds gave several hits like 6 Underground, The Adam Projectand free guy. On the latter two, he worked with director Shawn Levy, who is set to helm Dead Pool 3 for Marvel Studios.
The third dead Pool will mark the character’s official entry into the shared continuity of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Marvel Studios is also developing a movie about “The Mutants”, who will share the space with Dead Pool 3. The movie doesn’t have a release date but could be part of the franchise’s Phase Six slate.
Dead Pool 3 wouldn’t be Reynolds’ last stint as “Merc with Mouth,” and fans are already looking forward to seeing him throw punches and punchlines.
