Scarlett Johansson to receive Generation Award at MTV Movie & TV Awards – Deadline


The next MTV Movie & TV Awards 2021 will reward Scarlett Johansson with her Generation Award on Sunday.

The Generation Award honors actors whose diverse contributions to film and television have made them famous names. the Black Widow the actress joins previous recipients Sandra Bullock, Jim Carrey, Tom Cruise, Johnny Depp, Robert Downey Jr., Jamie Foxx, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and Mike Myers. Additional Generation Award winners include Chris Pratt, Adam Sandler, Will Smith, Mark Wahlberg and Reese Witherspoon.

Hosted by Leslie Jones, Sunday’s ceremony will recognize and celebrate the year’s most notable film and television titles. From disney WandaVision leads those nominations with five for categories, including Best Show, Best On-Show Performance, and Best Villain. Emily in Paris, The Boys, The Mandalorian and Next movie Borat are also in contention.

MTV revealed last week that it will also honor Sacha Baron Cohen with its Comedic Genius Award on Sunday.

Nikki Glaser will host the second night of the 2021 MTV Movie & TV Awards, which will honor unscripted titles. News of Johansson’s honor at the MTV Movie & TV Awards comes just days after issuing a statement against the HFPA for its lack of diversity in its ranks. Join Avengers Co-star Mark Ruffalo, who spoke the day before, Johansson recalled that his experience with members of HFPA had criticized the Hollywood organization.

“The HFPA is an organization that has been legitimized by figures like Harvey Weinstein to create momentum for Academy recognition, and the industry has followed suit. Unless there is a fundamental reform needed within the organization, I think it’s time we took a step back from the HFPA and focused on the importance and strength of the HFPA. ‘unity within our unions and the industry as a whole, ”she said.
