These projects apparently slipped from Marvel’s mind amid major updates

Marvel fans at San Diego Comic-Con 2022 received more announcements than they could handle. Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige laid the groundwork for the next three years and two phases of the Marvel Cinematic Universe – but remained silent on previously announced plans that now seem stuck in limbo.

Kevin Feige has confirmed release dates through 2024, and shocking fans gathered in Hall H with the revelation that they will have two avengers movies the same year. Marvel fans have new trailers for She-Hulk: Lawyerstarring Tatiana Maslany as Jennifer Walters, and heartbreaking Black Panther: Wakanda Forever which hinted that this could be Letitia Wright’s last outing as Princess Shuri.

Captain America 4, starring Anthony Mackie as Sam Wilson/Captain America, earned a title with New world order. The new Charlie Cox-directed daredevil Disney+ reboot will be called Daredevil: Born Again. And Blade finally got a November 3, 2023 release date, after being announced at SDCC 2019.

But there were a handful of projects announced by Marvel Studios that were missing from their jaw-dropping SDCC Hall H presentation.

deadpool 3, starring Ryan Reynolds as Wade Wilson/Deadpool AKA the Merc with a Mouth, got no updates this week at SDCC. The film was originally confirmed two years ago after Disney and Fox merged, with Kevin Fiege promising fans it would be rated R. The Adam Project director Shawn Levy has signed on to deadpool 3, but Bob’s Burgers The Molyneux sisters, Wendy Molyneux and Lizzie Molyneux-Loeglin have been replaced as screenwriters by Deadpool 1 and 2 writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick.

Ryan Reynolds has said he plans to go on hiatus for a while, so his official Marvel Cinematic Universe debut may not happen until Phase 6 or later. However, delays in this project could also depend on when the X-Men finally appear in the Marvel Universe.

Marvel fans who have been waiting for news of Marvel Studios’ stance on mutants and the X-Men have been disappointed. The only major announcement with the newly acquired rights to characters like Logan/Wolverine, Scott Summers/Cyclops, Jean Grey, and Ororo Munroe/Storm was the lineup for the X-Men ’97 anime series reboot. It’s unclear when or how the MCU will introduce mutants, but it could happen after the new multiverse saga ends as far back as Phase 7.

Other films in early development that had no updates include Shang Chi 2 and Eternals 2 and the Rumor Forever A strength film. There were also plenty of rumored Disney+ series that had no official mention in Hall H. This includes Young Avengers, son of midnight – a team of darker heroes like Moon Knight, Blade and Ghost Rider as well as the Nova series, one ten rings focusing on the Xialing of Meng’er Zhang and Wakanda series.

But one of the biggest projects we didn’t hear about was Armor Wars with Don Cheadle as James “Rhodey” Rhodes/War Machine. The Disney+ series is the only one announced on Disney Investor Day 2020 that didn’t receive any updates. Head Writer Yesssier Lester took to Instagram to post his own update saying it’s still meant to be posted.

Additionally, fans of Tom Holland’s Peter Parker/Spider-Man had no word on a possible Spider-man 4. With the rights to the Spider-verse still in Sony’s hands, negotiations could delay any official confirmation until the end of Phase 6.

Benedict Cumberbatch is still expected to have a doctor strange 3, but this is still likely early in development since Multiverse of Madness just dropped on Disney+. And it’s unclear when Chris Hemsworth will return as Thor, which was confirmed to director Taika Waititi’s shock at the end of Thor: Love and Thunder.

Let us know in the comments what other projects you think got left behind at SDCC this week.

You can stream Scarlett Johansson‘s Black Widow, Simu Liu’s Shang-Chi and Legend of the Ten Rings, Benedict Cumberbatch’s Eternals, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness and the Seven Series in Marvel’s Phase Four so far – WandaVision by Elizabeth Olsen and Paul Bettany, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier by Anthony Mackie and Sebastian Stan, Loki by Tom Hiddleston, What if…? by Marvel, Jeremy Renner’s Hawkeye, Oscar Isaac’s Moon Knight and Iman Vellani’s Ms. Marvel – on Disney+ anytime
