Tom Holland pushes for Oscars to recognize “Spider-Man: No Way Home”
Spider-Man: No Path Home was the highest-grossing film of 2021, and fans and critics alike rave about it, so Tom Holland is hoping the Academy will recognize the film at the Oscars.
âI’ve done Marvel movies, and I’ve also made movies that have been in the conversation in the Oscar world, and the alone the difference, really, is that one is much more expensive than the other, âsaid Holland. âBut the way I break down the character, the way the director draws the arc of the story and the characters – it’s the same thing, just done on a different scale. So I think they are real art.
The actor added: “When you do those movies, you know that, good or bad, millions of people will see them. Whereas when you do a little independent film, if it’s not very good, no one will watch it. So it comes with different levels of pressure.
âI mean, you can also ask Benedict Cumberbatch or Robert Downey Jr. or Scarlett Johansson – people who made the kind of movies that are ‘Oscar worthy’ and also made superhero movies. – and they’ll tell you they’re the same, just on a different scale. And there’s less spandex in the “Oscar movies.”
